In an "after-midnight" session of pressure and manipulation, the House finally approved CAFTA by a margin of two votes. Costa Rica and Nicaragua have still not approved it from their end, but it is likely that massive pressure from the US will force them to say "uncle." This pact is regarded as disatrous for the peoples of Central America and another impetus to job losses in the US, similar to what has happened since the passage of NAFTA some eleven years ago. One of the best statements on the impact this will have came from the American Friends Service Committee and we recommend it for your consideration.
